"Other Smoke"
It's no secret there's more than one source. I mean every brand knows this. What I find odd though is none of them will ever mention it. Strange because it's like the elephant in the room. But anyway, don't worry about that, I got you. The smoke "off the end" is actually called side stream smoke, and you simply need a few common sense tips to suppress it too. See below.
SUPPRESSING THE SIDE-STEAM SMOKE...
If you cannot extinguish it after a hit, don't even consider it. Avoid anything that continuously burns, obviously (no J's, no cigarettes). With that said, I believe the best option for maximizing concealment is vaporization. But not everyone has that luxury. So moving on to making more common methods work.
So whether it's a bong or a one-hitter, make sure that you always clear the chamber. This ensures no remnant smoke wafts back out. Secondly, always make sure to cover the end (or the bowl) with your thumb, lighter, bowl snuffer, or whatever works for you. Just make sure to starve the ember.
Other than that, crack a window. So to recap, avoid joints, clear chambers, and snuff out cherries. This and use a good sploof (a Smoke Eraser or Smoke Buddy will suffice). One that guarantees a sufficient level of activated carbon to get the smell (of the exhale) too. But that's as good as it gets, folks. It's about transparency.
